Roy Montz discovered the legend of Wan Hu, he was inspired to craft a poem for children’s books to share with young, impressionable readers. This age-old tale tells of a young boy with a dream of flying—a dream he dedicated years of his life to achieving. While the success of Wan Hu’s endeavor might be debated, the story serves as both a lesson in persistence and a reminder to approach our ambitions with caution and realism, making it a valuable addition to both educational and self-help books.

Roy Montz, a retired businessman, began writing children’s poems for “Kids Time” at his church in central Mississippi. His poems, which have been well received in various children’s books and bedtime stories, inspired him to continue writing and sharing. For Roy, a poem is like a puzzle; instead of physical pieces, he works with rhyming words, rhythm, and meter to craft stories that captivate young readers. The challenge of weaving these elements together fuels his passion for writing.

In addition to his poetry, Roy has written several short stories about his childhood adventures along the Mississippi River near New Orleans, which will soon be published as travel books. His hobbies include drawing caricatures, reading, and enjoying life on his farm with his wife of over 50 years, Julia, who has been a steadfast supporter of his writing endeavors. The creation of “Wan Hu: The World’s First Astronaut” is a testament to her unwavering encouragement.

Roy hopes you enjoy this children’s book, which combines beautiful illustrations with a story that encourages self-esteem and persistence. “Wan Hu: The World’s First Astronaut” is not just a picture book but also a journey into a world of imagination and inspiration for children.
